Slicklines
Wire for slicklines in a wide range of stainless steels and high-alloy materials, suitable for both sour and sweet wells.
Sandvik's wide range of materials for single-strand slicklines makes it possible to select the most appropriate grade for a specific environment. This contributes to safer operations and longer service life.
Cut costs with stainless steel slicklines
Although a higher initial cost, stainless steel slicklines can provide significant savings compared to carbon steel slicklines which are more susceptible to slickline breakage and lost production time.
Even in wells of moderate corrosion conditions, a stainless steel or high-alloy slickline will provide a significantly longer life, meaning:
- Less downtime in the well
- Fewer slicklines to be purchased
- Fewer slicklines to be re-spooled

Slickline materials
Sandvik's program of wire for slicklines includes stainless steels and high-alloy materials, suitable for both sour and sweet wells.
Other grades can be offered on request.
| Sandvik grade | Description |
|---|---|
| Sanicro 36Mo (UNS N08936) |
Material with extremely high mechanical strength for sour wells. Very good resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in H2S, chlorides and CO2 environments. Very good resistance to pitting and general corrosion. Also suitable as armor wire for multi-strand logging cables. |
| Sandvik SAF 2707 HD (UNS 32707) |
Material with extremely high mechanical strength for a recommended hydrogen sulphide partial pressure of max 3 psi. Excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and pitting in chloride environments. Very good resistance to general corrosion. |
| Sanicro 26Mo (UNS N08926) |
High-strength material for sour wells. Very good resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in H2S, chloride and CO2 environments. Very good resistance to pitting and general corrosion. Also suitable as armor wire for multi-strand logging cables. |
| Sanicro 28 (UNS N08028) |
A high-temperature material for sour wells. Very good resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in H2S, chloride and CO2 environments. Very good resistance to pitting and general corrosion. |
| Sandvik SAF 2205 (UNS S31803) |
For heavy demands on mechanical strength in medium sour wells with a hydrogen sulphide partial pressure of max. 3 psi. Very good resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in chloride environments. Good resistance to pitting and general corrosion. |
| Sandvik 5R60 (UNS S31600, ASTM 316) |
A cost-effective choice in less severe corrosive environments. Good resistance to general corrosion. |
| Sandvik CS-9A | A high-strength carbon steel suitable for use in sweet wells. |

User's guide for slicklines
Correct handling will prolong the life of the slickline and reduce the overall cost.
Recommendations for slickline usage:
- Avoid abrasion between the line and the ground or other equipment
- Ensure that sheave grooves are of the correct diameter
- Check sheaves for wear
- Check that sheaves are able to rotate freely
- Check the rubber seal in the stuffing box for wear
- Check the seal or gland in stuffing box for wear
- Use caution during jarring operations
- Inspect lines for diameter reduction after heavy jarring
- Brake carefully when lowering tools into the well
- When re-spooling, always spool from top to top
- Avoid kinking the line
- Avoid damage to shipping spools
- Store wireline spools vertically
- Clean lines after use
Recommended safe load
We recommend a safe load of 75% of the effective breaking load.
- Breaking load = certified tensile strength x diameter2 x 0.7854
- Effective breaking load = breaking load minus tool weight minus line weight
Wraptor ductility testing unit
With Sandvik's Wraptor ductility testing unit it is possible to more accurately predict the retirement point of a slickline.
