Cutting plates
Physical and mechanical properties
Hardness
The hardness of the cutting plates has been optimized for precise cutting using high-quality die cutting rules . There are two versions, designated Hard and Medium hard.
| Version | Hardness, HV (HRC) |
|---|---|
| Medium hard | 350 +/-25 (35 +/-2) |
| Hard | 540 +/-25 (52 +/-2) |
Microstructure
Fine grained and homogenous matrix of tempered martensite, with a small amount of undissolved carbides.
Surface decarburization
No free ferrite is allowed. Partial decarburization, 50 µm max.
Forms of supply
Dimensions
Width: up to 1200 mm

Technical specifications
Surface finish
White polished (not ground) or grey hardened surface on both sides, with uniform colour, free from oxide discolouration.
Surface roughness
Ra 0.5 μm max (target value 0.2 μm), measured with 0.8 mm cut off.
Surface defects
Max 5 μm height or depth for defects such as roll marks and dents.
Max 10 μm depth for single pits.
Max 3 μm depth for scratches, excluding burrs.
Edge shape
Laser cut edges, free from cracks, with rounded corners if required. Burr height less than 0.01 mm.
Laser cut tolerances
+/- 0.1 mm.
Flatness
Flatness deviation across the strip, 0.1 % max of the strip width.
Straightness
Straightness deviation, 0.5 mm /1m max.
Dimension tolerances
Thickness difference across and along the strip width (crown or wedge) does not exceed 0.015 mm. Width tolerance +/- 0.60 mm.
Applications
High-quality cutting plates for all flat bed diecutting presses. The high accuracy on flatness, hardness and dimensions makes Sandvik cutting plates ideal for precise cutting with high-quality cutting rules.
