Sandvik 22.9.3.LR (Covered electrodes)
Datasheet updated 2012-08-02 19:03:26 (supersedes all previous editions)
Sandvik 22.9.3.LR is a covered electrode with rutile-acid coating for welding of duplex (ferritic-austenitic) stainless steels of UNS S31803/S32205 type (e.g. Sandvik SAF 2205). It is characterized by very good welding properties and gives an austenitic-ferritic chromium/nickel/molybdenum weld metal with an extremely low carbon content for service temperatures up to 250oC (480oF). Spray transfer gives a bead with a finely rippled surface. There is little spatter and very good slag removal.
Sandvik 22.9.3.LR is particularly suited for welding in tubes.

Pitting
Sandvik 22.9.3.LR is suitable for service with high resistance against chloride containing environments, surpassing AISI 316.
A parameter for comparing the resistance of different steels to pitting, is the PRE number (Pitting Resistance Equivalent). The PRE is defined as, in weight-%: PRE = % Cr + 3.3 x % Mo + 16 x % N
The PRE value for Sandvik 22.9.3.LR is 35 minimum.

Applications
For welding austenitic-ferritic stainless steels, especially those with high resistance to stress corrosion cracking e.g. EN 1.4460 (Sandvik 10RE51), 1.4462 (Sandvik SAF 2205), 1.4417 (Sandvik 3RE60) and 1.4362 (Sandvik SAF 2304). Also suitable for welding of stainless structures where a particularly high strength is required.
